The Broken Heart Original Gin has won a Double Gold at this years The Fifty Best competition.
The Fifty Best, held in New York City, has once again shined its spotlight on gin by hosting a tasting where 65 contenders were evaluated for the distinguished “Best Gin” awards for 2021. The Double Gold award now sits alongside a long list of awards and medals for the Original Gin and something the team at Broken Heart are very proud of.
What was involved in this competition?
The Fifty Best held a “blind” tasting of 65 international gins including Traditional/London Dry, modern, botanical and Old Tom. The judging panel was made up of eleven people ranging from wine/spirits journalists, spirits professionals, wine/spirit retailers, mixologists, spirits consultants and connoisseurs. Strict tasting rules applied with the order in which the gins were tasted being established by a lottery system prior to judging. Each new sample was poured from sealed bottles into fresh glasses at room temperature and only ice water, unflavoured, unsalted crackers and chips were available to cleanse the palate.
Using professional criteria, the gins were rated individually on a 1-5 point scoring system with 5 being the highest. After tallying the scores, medals were awarded based on the judges’ impressions. Not all entries were awarded medals and therefore it is of note that medals are provided based entirely on merit and only to products judged worthy of such award. Only 10 entries received a Double Gold at this years competition.
