Broken Heart Spirits have released their first 0% alcohol gin. Understanding the need in the market to cater for those wanting all the taste and flavour but without the alcohol it was time this product was released.
Made to replicate the delicious taste of the Broken Heart Original Gin, now people are able to know what all the fuss is about but without the alcohol! Available from our website and soon to be in stores around New Zealand.
Tasting Notes: Our Broken Heart 0% alcohol gin is reminiscent of our multi-award winning Original Gin but with a special twist. Originating from our 11 natural ingredients, we have removed the alcohol without compromising on the perfectly balanced flavour. The citrus presence is strong offering a level of fresh crispness, whilst allowing the other botanicals to shine through.
Flavour profile: Citrus, spicy, floral, fresh, savoury
Aroma: Earthy undertones and floral abundance come together to reflect the quintessential Central Otago landscape.

These packages have been created to take the time and stress out of regularly having to order new product. There is no better surprise than receiving a mystery bottle from the Broken Heart Spirits range direct to your front door every month!
There are 2 packages available:
Distiller’s Choice: Sign up to our Distiller’s Choice membership and each month Joerg, our Master Distiller, will select 1, 2 or 6 bottles from the Broken Heart range (number of bottles depends on how many you wish to receive). It could be our latest limited-edition release, one of our naturally flavoured gins, our multi award winning original products, maybe the World’s Best Vodka or even a Spiced Rum or Whisky variety.
Your Choice: Simply sign up, choose how many bottles you wish to receive each month (1, 2 or 6) and you will get a monthly delivery of your favourite drop straight to your door. Each mont, just send us an email and we will make sure you get the bottle (or bottles) you want for your next eagerly awaited delivery.

This year Broken Heart Spirits is celebrating its 10 year anniversary.
Joerg never thought 10 years ago, after the loss of such a special friend, that their dreams and creations would be available in 18 countries around the world, winning prestigious awards and lining the shelves of not only home bars but national and international bars and restaurants. It is like a dream come true and definitely a milestone to celebrate.
In honour of the 10 year anniversary Broken Herat have released a single barrel Weinbrand (brandy) that has been lovingly crafted from the distilling of Central Otago pinot noir wine and rested in chardonnay oak barrels for 16 years. In 2006 Joerg had the vision to create this Weinbrand and now, on this special occasion, he has released this extremely special, collectors-edition vintage.

It is that time of year where a lot of the competition results are announced for different spirit awards. Broken Heart Spirits enters these competitions to gauge where we are sitting in terms of international and national standards. We are always very humbled with the awards we achieve and do not take any of them for granted. So often spirits are entered into competitions and do not come out with a medal but we are pleased to say that 99% of the time this is not the case for Broken Heart.
Just last month the medal winners of the fourth New Zealand Spirits Awards were announced. Our Vodka and Rum won Double Gold awards, our Pinot Noir Gin won Gold and our Original Gin won a silver.
This year saw an increase in the number of categories from seven to 15; with whisky and gin expanding to reflect the complexities within the categories. The number of entries from gin alone increased from 145 last year to 235, and of those, 185 were locally produced, according to organisers.
Only twenty-three Double Gold medals and 44 Gold medals were awarded to stand-out entries so to be part of this prestigious group of spirits we are absolutely over the moon.
Just looking at the number of entries it is clear to see the market is becoming more competitive as new and smaller distilleries are coming onboard. So for Broken Heart, who have been established for 10 years, it is good to know we are still doing everything right!!
Finally we also had a scoop of awards at the Tokyo Whisky and Spirits Competition with our Navy Strength Gin winning a Gold Medal and our Original Gin winning a Silver Medal. From an international perspective this is a significant result and one we are super proud of.

In honour of Broken Hearts 10 year anniversary, Joerg, the Master Distiller and Director has released a Collector’s Edition vintage Brandy. In German Brandy is translated to Weinbrand and the wine used for the creation of this Brandy is from a single vintage of pinot noir grapes.
This single barrel Weinbrand has been lovingly crafted from the distilling of Central Otago pinot noir wine and rested in chardonnay oak barrels for 16 years. In 2006 Joerg had the vision to create this Weinbrand and now, on Broken Heart Spirits 10-year anniversary, he has released this extremely special, collectors-edition vintage.
Radiating golden hues reminiscent of the Arrowtown Autumnal landscape this Weinbrand offers softness and suppleness that is extremely enjoyable. A true reflection of what New Zealand and the deep south of New Zealand can offer! The use of quality pinot noir grapes has been approached with a gentility and softness it deserves. With an immediate hint of walnut, Brazil nut and Almond, the finish is short, but welcomed due to the weighty mid palate. Lingering hints of nutmeg and allspice round out this brandy. Enjoy as a great digestif at the end of any meal.
Flavour Profile: almond, nutmeg, allspice, warming, caramel, oak
Aroma: butterscotch, cardamon, gentle nutmeg, vanilla and subtle mandarin peel

The 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) just concluded, and the results are in! The Broken Heart Original Gin came away with a Gold Medal and the Queenstown Edition scooped a Silver Medal.
This is the first time we have entered these awards so to come out with a gold and silver is a huge achievement. At the SFWSC a gold medal is one that is recognised as an exceptional spirit that is near the pinnacle of achievement; these products set the standard for their categories. This is significant recognition for a home-based distillery based in the southern corner of the South Island of New Zealand.
Throughout four days of highly controlled blind tastings, the experienced judging panels taste every product to decide if it is medal-worthy. Judges do not receive any information on producer or price point, ensuring each spirit is judged fairly, equally, and without bias. While tasting, judges evaluate each product on an individual basis—not compared to other entries in the flight. During this stage, judges determine which entries are worthy of a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal.

The International Wine and Spirits Competition 2022 results have been announced. Once again Broken Heart Spirits walks away with medals, achieving a silver award for both the Original Gin and The Navy Strength Gin.
Over two weeks, 85 of the world’s leading spirit experts were gathered to assess over 4,000 spirits from over 90 countries, entered into 21 different categories. Each spirit was tasted and awarded a score. Our Original Gin gained 92 points and the Navy Strength 91 points.
Demonstrating its enduring popularity, Gin continued to dominate at the awards this year, accounting for more than 1,200 of total entries.
The results for all spirits categories are available now on the IWSC website. All spirits were tasted by the IWSC’s carefully curated panels of industry experts, led by members of its Spirits Judging Committee: Ian Burrell,Marie Cheong Thong,Dawn Davies MW,Joel Harrison,Deano Moncrieffe, Richard Paterson OBE, David T. Smith and Olivier Ward.
The aim of the IWSC is to reward excellence in drinks worldwide, ensuring recognition for the very best wines and spirits. The IWSC is proud to set the international benchmark for quality, standing out in the crowded world of drinks awards with hundreds of global experts – including buyers, producers, distillers, sommeliers, distributors and influencers – judging wines and spirits throughout the year.

Broken Heart Vodka has won the WORLD’s best Pure and Neutral Vodka at the World Vodka Awards 2022.
Competing in the World Drinks Awards, Broken Heart Spirits first won the award for New Zealand’s best vodka in the Pure Neutral category, then went on to beat 18 other country winners to claim the World’s Best Vodka award.
The awards were judged in London by a panel of expert distillers, consultants, buyers, mixologists and spirits afficionados.
Broken Heart owner and master distiller Joerg Henkenhaf and his team celebrated the wins with a well-deserved cocktail or two, capping off a stellar year of 24 awards in 2021.
Late last year the company opened Queenstown’s first Gin Garden restaurant and tasting room and this year it will celebrate a decade of operation.
Joerg described their 40% proof world’s best vodka as an “outstanding drop”.
“It’s made with the finest spring water from Arrowtown, creating a delectably pure and clean vodka with soft notes of citrus,” he says.
“A lot of people know us for our gin, but we are constantly developing our products and expanding our range to broaden Broken Heart’s audience and appeal.”
The Pure Neutral category in which Broken Heart Vodka won is defined as one where impurities in aroma and flavour have been filtered out to leave clear spirit of clean, neutral character.

We are thrilled to finally announce the launch of the new gin elixir, Bella.
Bella – Wild Plum Gin Elixir is carefully crafted from local Dublin Bay plums and blended with revitalising aromatics to create a luscious gin elixir. Lighter in alcohol than traditional spirits, Bella is the perfect tipple for any occasion.
Joerg from Broken Heart Spirits has worked with Annabel Langbein perfecting the recipe for this luscious drop and are excited to release it for others to enjoy.
Annabel has been picking wild plums for many years to make her own special gin. It’s become a ritual — checking the fruit for perfect ripeness so it can release its ruby juices, then carefully blending it with eighteen different revitalising aromatics and botanicals. Months and months later, the alchemy of nature delivers us this wonderful gin elixir.

Queenstown is officially the host for the first Gin Tour in New Zealand! Featuring Broken Heart Gin Garden, we cannot contain how extremely excited we are to be a part of it.
The epic team at Altitude Tours have curated New Zealand’s very first gin tour and the World’s first Heli gin tour. The epic experience includes gin tastings at 3 uniquely different locations from Cardrona to Arrowtown and ending with a visit to us at Broken Heart Gin Garden for an unforgettable gin tasting. This half-day tour departs from Queenstown, with accommodation pick up in one of Altitude Tour’s luxury Mercedes vehicles; head up the Crown Range road, taking in amazing views to Cardrona for a Distillery tour; back down to the history-rich Arrowtown for the second tasting and shared grazing boards; making your way back to Queenstown the third stop is at Arthurs Point with us at the Gin Garden for more gin tastings and our famous German Tarte Flambée to share.
You will be hosted in our private tasting room, with great info about our unique history, meaning behind our name and of course, tasting the Broken Heart Gin. A visit to the Gin Garden is made even better with our staff favourite the ‘Queenstown Edition’ Gin, this is exclusively available for tasting and purchase from the Gin Garden (not available online) and the perfect souvenir to take home after you’ve experienced this great day out.
