What started off with humble beginnings the team at Broken Heart is gradually growing in size. With 6 full time employees we are a family, who all share the same core values and pride in the Broken Heart products and history. The Distillery and office are all located at Joerg’s personal residence in Arrow Junction so many a morning coffee, lunches and evening gins are spent around his dining room table.
Joerg Henkenhaf – Owner/Distiller
What do you do at Broken Heart? I am the main brain creating ideas and the long-term vision for the company. I am continually driven by my passion for distilling and so remain very hands on in the day-to-day production of the Broken Heart Spirits range.
Favourite Cocktail? At the moment it is Negroni
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? If I am not cruising around on the e-bike, you will find me in the heart of the home brainstorming new creations and concoctions from jams and jellies to new gin flavours.
Nicky Saggers – Operations Manager
What do you do at Broken Heart? I am responsible for everything from production to dispatch and all that’s in between, including labelling and bottling. I spend most of my time in the distillery and cellar and most importantly keeping Joerg and my team on track!
Favourite Cocktail? If it really has to be one…… then Gin basil smash
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? I’ve been lucky enough to creatively reinvent myself throughout my life, from 25 years in the film industry, setting up a successful landscaping company, to now being part of a highly successful, boutique local distillery. I absolutely love my job and the best part of it is being able to share the Broken Heart creations with my friends and family.
Lyn Guilfoyle – Production Coordinator
What do you do at Broken Heart? I do a bit of everything to ensure the smooth day to day running of Broken Heart Spirits. Keeping all policies and procedural manuals up to date, organising logistics around events and festivals and ensuring Broken Heart is entered into all relevant competitions and award categories.
Favourite Cocktail? Dark and Stormy
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? The trails of Arrowtown are on my back doorstep so in the evenings I take myself off into the mountains. I also coach the local hockey school B team.
Louise Clark – Sales and Marketing
What do you do at Broken Heart? I manage the online presence and digital strategy for both Broken Heart Spirits and the Gin Garden in line with organisational objectives. This includes development of website content, paid and organic digital channels, development of SEO strategy and monitoring channel performance.
Favourite Cocktail? It depends what day you ask me, but currently Dark and Stormy
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? If I am not out on the bike with my family then you will find me hiking the mountains of Arrowtown and Queenstown. We are blessed to live in such a beautiful part of New Zealand, I like to explore as much as possible.
Aya Nakagawa – South East Asia Sales and Marketing
What do you do at Broken Heart? I spend my days in the distillery helping the team with bottling, labelling and spirit production. Quality control is very important so will spend a lot of time checking individual bottles before dispatch. I am also in the process of sourcing a Japanese distributor so we can ramp up our marketing efforts in this region.
Favourite cocktail? Negroni
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Catching up with friends over cocktails and getting lost in a good book. During the summer months I like to go camping and explore the local trails by bike. I am also learning how to make ice spheres with a mini ice pick in my spare time.
Nori Sato – Operations Assistant
What do you do at Broken Heart? It us usually all hands on deck when it comes to bottling and labelling of the Broken Heart Spirits range. I help distil the spirits to ensure continuous supply of stock is available for sale and have recently started brewing a beer to add to our product portfolio. Every bottle needs to be double checked so I also assist with quality control.
Favourite cocktail? Vodka and soda with slice of orange
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? To relax I love to read. I also really enjoy cooking and experimenting with Broken Heart cocktail recipes.
